Pumpkin and Sea Salt Almond butter truffles
Left: Cinnamon Dusted Carrot/Pumpkin TrufflesRight: Almond Butter truffles topped with Sea Salt
I used two different recipes to create these and then gave it my own little spin. The recipes are from the following links: Chocolate Almond Butter Balls: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/441141725978925051/
and
Paleo Carrot Cake Truffles:
http://livinghealthywithchocolate.com/desserts/paleo-carrot-cake-truffles-5029/
The modifications:
Carrot Cake Truffels: I added some pumpkin puree with pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon in the mixture. I also used doTerra Cinnamon oil in the melted chocolate
and dusted the truffles with Cinnamon
Almond Butter truffles: I sprinkled course sea salt on the truffles as the chocolate was hardening

Yoga - 30 Minute Gentle Yoga Practice
I really enjoyed this
video. The movements were slow and gentle enough for those who are at various
levels, from the novice to the pro. I really liked that Cindy offered
adaptations of the poses, so that individuals may determine and honor exactly
where they are in their practices, instilling a sense of empowerment and
confidence. The piece the resistance was the lovely guided meditation at the
end to complete the lovely process. I felt peaceful, yet energized, when
finished.

Dr Oz On The HCG Diet
HCG diet is widely used by individuals looking to lose weight. It comes with controversy, but the results have been astounding for many, many women and men who have tried it and succeeded in their persuit of weight loss. Dr Oz was interviewed about this program and gave his opinion, and I found this to be a fairly up front look at this diet program for those looking for basic information.
It is a stringent diet, relying in 500-700 calories a day, (This video explains why this is ok on the HCG diet.) It can be done by receiving daily injections or drops (some controversy which way is more effective). The weight loss can be anywhere from 0.5 lbs-1.5 lbs per day, depending on the individual. It is a diet that is done in 3 phases:
The first phase involves eating large amount of fatty and dense foods. Then you go into Phase 2. You eat very basic meals that include a protein+vergetable, or protein+fruit. You may have 100g per meal of either very lean meat, chicken or non-fatty fish. You are allowed low calorie/low sugar vegetables and unlimited amounds of "neglegeable" vegetables such as cucumber, cabbage, and salad greens, but also some of the more more powerful deep leafy greens are most definitely promoted. Fruit is restricted to certain berries, grapefruit, and apples. There are other low calorie and low sugar fruits around the world that may be added in as well. You may have coffee, tea, water, mineral water, and naturally flavored water (with fruit or stevia). You may have stevia.
Overall, one can make every meal or snack count by picking the most nutrient dense foods. If you can afford to do so, make it hormone/antibiotic free, and organic wherever possible.
You are not allowed to eat anything refined or processed. No sugar, artificial sweeteners, or sugar alcohol (sometimes small quantities ok), no wheat, no starchy vergetables, no grains, no legumes, very minimal dairy (coffee or occasional greek yogurt, etc), and no fats. I know there is a trend in eating healthy fats right now, and there are HCG websites that say you may have up to a tablespoon of it a day, but others say no ADDED fats, other than what may already be in your foods. There are many resourses for recipes online and in books for this diet. One must be careful to make sure that it fits into your protocol.
The last phase (3) now slowly begins to incorporate more foods back into the diet, allowing you to go into a maintenance phase. You gradually increase calories toward your body's optimal range. While exercise is not required, it is suggested to do some low intensity workouts or aerobics to keep up fitness levels, maintain muscle, and promote metabolism and fat loss. It is also suggested you receive lymphatic drainage treatments.
Massage and lymphatic treatments can be a wonderful addition, as they can ease stress, help to promote circulation and move "toxins" and waste materials through system a bit faster. Given that you aren't supposed to have added fats or oils, some individuals have to be more careful that the massage oils or creams aren't absorbing into your skin, causing weight gain. (Not everyone is affected by this on HCG.) If that is the case, there are a couple of alternatives such as oil free massage gels/creams/oils that may be used temporarily, until you're no longer on HCG. There are styles of lymphatic drainage, such as the Vodder method and Chikly methods, that do NOT use anything to perform the session. These are the best options. For regular massage, check with your massage therapist to see what they use and if they would consider using a different medium, if you are concerned about weight gain. Again, not everyone who does HCG is that sensitive.
I hope this was helpful. Happy dieting.

Missing link found between brain, immune system -- with major disease implications
June 2, 2015 | by Editor
Implications profound for neurological diseases from autism to Alzheimer's to multiple sclerosis
In a stunning discovery that overturns decades of textbook teaching, researchers at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine have determined that the brain is directly connected to the immune system by vessels previously thought not to exist. That such vessels could have escaped detection when the lymphatic system has been so thoroughly mapped throughout the body is surprising on its own, but the true significance of the discovery lies in the effects it could have on the study and treatment of neurological diseases ranging from autism to Alzheimer's disease to multiple sclerosis.
"Instead of asking, 'How do we study the immune response of the brain?' 'Why do multiple sclerosis patients have the immune attacks?' now we can approach this mechanistically. Because the brain is like every other tissue connected to the peripheral immune system through meningeal lymphatic vessels," said Jonathan Kipnis, PhD, professor in the UVA Department of Neuroscience and director of UVA's Center for Brain Immunology and Glia (BIG). "It changes entirely the way we perceive the neuro-immune interaction. We always perceived it before as something esoteric that can't be studied. But now we can ask mechanistic questions."
"We believe that for every neurological disease that has an immune component to it, these vessels may play a major role," Kipnis said. "Hard to imagine that these vessels would not be involved in a [neurological] disease with an immune component."
Even Kipnis was skeptical initially. "I really did not believe there are structures in the body that we are not aware of. I thought the body was mapped," he said. "I thought that these discoveries ended somewhere around the middle of the last century. But apparently they have not."
After noticing vessel-like patterns in the distribution of immune cells on his slides, he tested for lymphatic vessels and there they were. The impossible existed. The soft-spoken Louveau recalled the moment: "I called Jony [Kipnis] to the microscope and I said, 'I think we have something.'"
As to how the brain's lymphatic vessels managed to escape notice all this time, Kipnis described them as "very well hidden" and noted that they follow a major blood vessel down into the sinuses, an area difficult to image. "It's so close to the blood vessel, you just miss it," he said. "If you don't know what you're after, you just miss it."
"Live imaging of these vessels was crucial to demonstrate their function, and it would not be possible without collaboration with Tajie Harris," Kipnis noted. Harris, a PhD, is an assistant professor of neuroscience and a member of the BIG center. Kipnis also saluted the "phenomenal" surgical skills of Igor Smirnov, a research associate in the Kipnis lab whose work was critical to the imaging success of the study.

New Discovery in Human Body
Kevin Lee, PhD, chairman of the UVA Department of Neuroscience, described his reaction to the discovery by Kipnis' lab: "The first time these guys showed me the basic result, I just said one sentence: 'They'll have to change the textbooks.' There has never been a lymphatic system for the central nervous system, and it was very clear from that first singular observation - and they've done many studies since then to bolster the finding - that it will fundamentally change the way people look at the central nervous system's relationship with the immune system."Even Kipnis was skeptical initially. "I really did not believe there are structures in the body that we are not aware of. I thought the body was mapped," he said. "I thought that these discoveries ended somewhere around the middle of the last century. But apparently they have not."
'Very Well Hidden'
The discovery was made possible by the work of Antoine Louveau, PhD, a postdoctoral fellow in Kipnis' lab. The vessels were detected after Louveau developed a method to mount a mouse's meninges - the membranes covering the brain - on a single slide so that they could be examined as a whole. "It was fairly easy, actually," he said. "There was one trick: We fixed the meninges within the skullcap, so that the tissue is secured in its physiological condition, and then we dissected it. If we had done it the other way around, it wouldn't have worked."After noticing vessel-like patterns in the distribution of immune cells on his slides, he tested for lymphatic vessels and there they were. The impossible existed. The soft-spoken Louveau recalled the moment: "I called Jony [Kipnis] to the microscope and I said, 'I think we have something.'"

Alzheimer's, Autism, MS and Beyond
The unexpected presence of the lymphatic vessels raises a tremendous number of questions that now need answers, both about the workings of the brain and the diseases that plague it. For example, take Alzheimer's disease. "In Alzheimer's, there are accumulations of big protein chunks in the brain," Kipnis said. "We think they may be accumulating in the brain because they're not being efficiently removed by these vessels." He noted that the vessels look different with age, so the role they play in aging is another avenue to explore. And there's an enormous array of other neurological diseases, from autism to multiple sclerosis, that must be reconsidered in light of the presence of something science insisted did not exist.Note: Material may have been edited for length and content. Why Yogis Need Regular Massage
Why Yogis Need Regular Massage
We all could benefit from massage for many different reasons. Often it is those of us who tend to give to others and share our energies (or carry others', if boundaries aren't clear), that need bodywork the most. It is NOT a cure-all or fix-all, but it is another way to connect to that which is deep within us, as well as our physical selves.

Healing the mind, body and spirit may help you to lose some of excess pounds you're carrying around
http://www.mindbodygreen.com/0-13838/how-i-lost-more-than-60-pounds-with-these-healing-secrets.html
Do you suffer from excess weight? Would you like to lose 10 pounds, 20 pounds or a lot more? Are you sick of dieting or food restrictions? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then please know that that you are not alone. All over the world, the dieting game has been purposefully created and expanded by the exact same companies that profit from the millions of dollars that dieters spend, year after year.
Today I want to share with you four powerful weight loss secrets that transformed my life. These secrets helped me to lose over 60 pounds naturally (no diets, drugs or deprivation) and I have kept the weight off for over 14 years now. In the process I naturally healed eczema, asthma, thyroid dysfunction, adrenal exhaustion and chronic fatigue syndrome and stopped taking prescription medications.
The four secrets that made all the difference were:
1. Start a healing journey.
Losing weight is a healing journey. It is not about going on a diet, as is commonly believed. Permanent weight loss is about realizing that the only person responsible for your health is you. Losing weight naturally is about actively choosing to go on your own healing journey of self-discovery and transformation.
In my classes and workshops, I always like to say that you are the person you have been looking for! The answers to all the questions you have lives inside of you. Going on a healing journey allows you to turn down the distractions in your life, so that you can tune in and hear the answers that live within.
2. Heal your body.
Food not only has the ability to change what you look like, but it can also shift how you think and feel. Healing foods are low in toxicity and therefore encourage the body to thrive. Eating healing foods will give you the ability to self-heal and experience having high energy levels.
So what are healing foods? Healing foods are real foods. These foods are how nature intended for them to be eaten. They are free from artificial flavorings, additives, colorings and preservatives.
Everyone eats food but the key thing here is to ensure that you are eating the right types of foods that are yummy but also full of nutrition.
3. Heal your mind.
Your thoughts are part of your inner world and must be taken into account if you are to lose weight for good.
Simply begin by noticing which thoughts support you on your weight loss journey of healing. Pay attention to the thoughts that make you feel good, along with the ones that don't. The more supportive the thoughts you have, the healthier, kinder and more loving your mind will be. Cultivating the practice of thinking supportive healing thoughts will help you to change your old habits and patterns in a joyful manner.
There are many simple exercises that you can use to change how you think about your body. Some of my favorite ones to use for weight loss are engaging your imagination, visualization, meditation, yoga, affirmations, noticing your self-talk and paying attention to your language patterns.
4. Heal your emotions.
Building a healthy emotional world is the foundation of not only losing weight but of keeping it off for good.
Healing your emotions means to do the inner work so that you can experience joyful emotions such as happiness, love, health, energy, trust, forgiveness, courage and strength. When filled with these types of emotions, your ability to believe in yourself to achieve your goals becomes resolute and rock solid. As a result you will feel better and your self image, self esteem and self confidence will improve.
You can lose weight naturally, if instead of focusing on 'losing weight' begin to shift your focus to healing your body, your mind and your emotions!

Gluten Intolerance
By Dr. Amy Myers
http://www.mindbodygreen.com/0-7482/10-signs-youre-gluten-intolerant.html
More than 55 diseases have been linked to gluten, the protein found in wheat, rye, and barley. It's estimated that 99% of the people who have either gluten intolerance or celiac disease are never diagnosed.
It is also estimated that as much as 15% of the US population is gluten intolerant. Could you be one of them?
If you have any of the following symptoms it could be a sign that you have gluten intolerance:
1. Digestive issues such as gas, bloating, diarrhea and even constipation. I see the constipation particularly in children after eating gluten.
2. Keratosis Pilaris, (also known as 'chicken skin' on the back of your arms). This tends be as a result of a fatty acid deficiency and vitamin A deficiency secondary to fat-malabsorption caused by gluten damaging the gut.
3. Fatigue, brain fog or feeling tired after eating a meal that contains gluten.
4. Diagnosis of an autoimmune disease such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Ulcerative colitis, Lupus, Psoriasis, Scleroderma or Multiple sclerosis.
5. Neurologic symptoms such as dizziness or feeling of being off balance.
6. Hormone imbalances such as PMS, PCOS or unexplained infertility.
7. Migraine headaches.
8. Diagnosis of chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia. These diagnoses simply indicate your conventional doctor cannot pin point the cause of your fatigue or pain.
9. Inflammation, swelling or pain in your joints such as fingers, knees or hips.
10. Mood issues such as anxiety, depression, mood swings and ADD.
How to test for gluten intolerance?
I have found the single best ways to determine if you have an issue with gluten is to do an elimination diet and take it out of your diet for at least 2 to 3 weeks and then reintroduce it. Please note that gluten is a very large protein and it can take months and even years to clear from your system so the longer you can eliminate it from your diet before reintroducing it, the better.
The best advice that I share with my patients is that if they feel significantly better off of gluten or feel worse when they reintroduce it, then gluten is likely a problem for them. In order to get accurate results from this testing method you must eliminate 100% of the gluten from your diet.
How to treat gluten intolerance?
Eliminating gluten 100% from your diet means 100%. Even trace amounts of gluten from cross contamination or medications or supplements can be enough to cause an immune reaction in your body.
The 80/20 rule or "we don't eat it in our house, just when we eat out" is a complete misconception. An article published in 2001 states that for those with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity eating gluten just once a month increased the relative risk of death by 600%.
Still unsure?

Improve Balance and Strengthen your back
Gain Balance and Strengthen your Back
by Lara Hudson
Back Extension Warm Up
This is a great beginning exercise, as it helps open the front of the shoulder and promote mobility of the upper (thoracic) spine.
Starting position: Lie on your stomach with hands interlaced behind back, elbows bent, left ear on mat, legs together.
Exercise: Inhale, lift the chest off the floor and extend the arms up and back; hold this position for one breath, then turn the right ear to the mat, bend the elbows and rest the chest to the floor; repeat 10x, alternating the resting head position with each rep.
Tip: Focus on rolling the shoulders back and reaching the chest forward. Shoulders tight? Grab a hand towel with both hands to open up your grip.
Do: 1 set of 10
Back Pumps
The three different positions target every muscle fiber in the back, from hips to shoulders.
Start: Lying on stomach, legs bent at 90 degrees with knees slightly apart and heels together; arms long at sides with palms facing up; neck long, eyes on floor.
Step 1: Lift the chest, arms and legs off the floor, and from here pump the arms and legs upward 10x, drawing the shoulder blades down and hugging the arms toward the body.
Step 2: Place arms in a ‘goal post’ position, keep knees bent but open heels into parallel; pump the arms and legs upward 10x.
Step 3: Reach the arms overhead, palms turned in, and extend the legs hip-distance apart; from here, pump the arms and legs upward 10x; rest, then repeat entire series, steps 1-3.
Tip: Imagine you're pressing your limbs through water, creating a sense of resistance. Keep the torso still (no bobbing or bucking); instead, pump the arms and legs higher than the torso.
Do: Two sets of 10
Single Leg Circles
This forearm plank works the shoulder stabilizers, spinal muscles and the posterior hip — challenging and effective!
Start: Forearm plank position
Exercise: Lift the right leg up, keeping it long and straight; from here, make dinner-plate sized circles with the leg, circling 8x in each direction; place the right foot down and repeat the circling action with the left leg; rest, then repeat entire series.
Tip: Keep the knee straight and draw the circle from your hip joint, not your toes; keep the stomach strong so the pelvis doesn’t rock or drop — stability is key.
Do: Two sets of eight each direction
Reverse Tabletop Knee Pull
This one is deceptively difficult to do well! Get those hips high and give it your best shot!
Start: Reverse tabletop position, with hands directly below shoulders and knees directly over hips; hips lifted as high as possible.
Exercise: Exhale and lift the right knee into tabletop position without dropping or rotating the hips; inhale and place the foot down; repeat with the left leg, and alternate right to left 10x (5x each leg); on last rep, keep leg lifted and pump the hips higher 10x with the supporting leg.
Tip: If your wrists are uncomfortable when your fingers point toward your hips, then rotate the arms so that the fingertips point to the side or to the back.
Do: Two sets of 10 (alternating legs)
Scorpion Push-Up
This is my favorite exercise, a combination of a kneeling push up and an Upward Facing Dog — strengthening and opening at the same time!
Start: Lying on stomach, knees bent and slightly apart, feet pressed together; hands placed on mat at the base of the rib cage, elbows bent and pulled into the waist.
Exercise: Inhale and lengthen the head and chest forward into a back extension as you press your hands into the floor and extend the arms (similar to a yoga ‘Up Dog’ posture); exhale and slowly roll the spine back down, bending the elbows into the waistband as you lower down.
Tip: Keep the elbows pulled tightly into the ribcage both on the way up and down; if the elbows sway out, the work will shift into the front of the shoulder - we want to stay in the back!
Do: One set of 10
Child's Pose
After all that back work, this rest pose will be a welcome pleasure. Enjoy.
Position: Bend the knees and sit back on the heels, placing the forehead down and lengthening the arms forward on the floor; rest here for eight long breaths, guaranteed to feel great on the lower back.
Tip: Separate the knees slightly to make room for the ribcage, and focus on breathing slowly into the back of the lungs, which helps stretch out the back and develops greater lung capacity.
